Texas Hold 'Em Poker
Game rules for poker:
A game usually consists of 9 to 11 players. - Bets are paid into the pot before the first card is dealt. These are referred to as big blind (dealer right) and little blind (dealer left) and are pre-set amounts.
- Starting from the dealer's left hand side, two cards are dealt face down to every player, one at a time.
- The betting round begins with each player having 3 options: a) matching or calling the big blind (ie. existing bet), b) folding their hand (if they don't like their cards), or c) putting more money into the pot or raising the bet.
- A decision is made on what to bet (if anything) by each player.
- If any player raises the bet, each player must then call the new amount.
- If a player raises the bet, then they may not do so again unless they are re-raised.
- If the amount is not raised by any player, then the players may check.
- The flop is a series of shared community cards that all players can use in conjunction with their own 2 cards in order to make the best possible combination.
- The flop begins by the dealer burning a card (putting it to one side and not using it in play), dealing 3 cards face down and turning them over simultaneously.
- The betting round begins again, as previously described.
- The dealer burns another card and deals a fourth (shared) card, referred to as the turn. Another round of betting commences.
- The dealer burns a fifth and final card, referred to as the river. A final round of betting takes place and the best hand ultimately wins.
