First of all, as the organizer of the party, you must be able to know the exact theme of the party. If the theme is a 1920′s gangsters and flappers, you must be able to make sure that the party will look like the theme.
For a 30th birthday party having a theme of gangsters and flappers, make an invitation which shows the 1920’s and 30’s language. Remember that this era is the time when drinking alcohol was prohibited and during this time a speakeasy was the only place to buy liquor. You would want to make an invitation where there is a speakeasy logo or something which reminds everybody of the prohibition era. In the invitation, clearly state the dress code so that everybody will have the right ideas for the theme of the party. For example:- A picture of flapper or gangster inspired clothing can be attached in the invitation for reference.
As with the dress code, women can come in flapper attire. When you say flapper, it includes wearing of short skirts, bobbed hair, and excessive make up, long pearl necklaces, filtered cigarettes and fans. Men can wear gangster inspired costumes which include white tops with suspenders, zoot suit, cigarettes and of course fake guns.
The place to hold the party as well as the decoration of the party should have a consistent vintage-look. Some places to consider are the cocktail bars, ballrooms or even at your house.
Make sure the area of the place to hold the party has enough space to hold the number of party goers. Since you are holding an adult party, you can transform the place in a Speakeasy look-alike ambience with the backroom having gambling and alcohol drinking. Decorate the tables with black and white cloth; put a lot of candles and wines by the iron wine holder. You must be able to research for punch and recipes appropriate for the theme of the party.
You might want to include a fog and smoke machine to add in the ambience of the Speakeasy-look party. Remember that a lot of candles will add to the lightning feature and be like in the era of prohibition in the 1920’s and 30’s where gangsters and flappers are the trend.
Music related to the theme must be played throughout the duration of the party. Make sure that you fully research on your theme so that you will be able to create a real ambience of a 1920′s Gangsters and Flappers party.
